The International Pole Sports Federation is delighted to announce the introduction of a ParaPole category at the 2017 World Pole Sports Championships, July in Holland.

A list of all athletes interested in competing is currently being compiled including the many different abilities and requirements. This will enable us to create the foundation for future categories.

A 3 - 5 year plan is being developed for the Para Pole Category; starting small and simple to gauge interest, nurture the sport and gradually learn each year to evolve the sport as it grows. There is an element of unknown for the IPSF as no one has ever embarked upon a Para Pole Category that hopes one day to follow Para Olympic standards, so we ask for understanding and constructive feedback throughout the process.

Our provisional plan is as follows which may be subject to change; the launch will be on 1st March 2017.

THREE - FIVE YEAR PLAN

Year 1:

  • Athletes must be registered as disabled to enter
  • One category for all abilities (unless numbers and different types of disabilities prove otherwise)
  • A possible gender split for categories if numbers of athletes require this
  • All athletes will be scored using the amateur scoring requirements from the IPSF Code of Points
  • Qualification is through IPSF national/open championships and/or video application

Year 2:

  • Athletes must be registered as disabled to enter
  • Two or more categories for all abilities (depending on numbers and disability types)
  • A possible gender split for categories if numbers of athletes require this
  • All athletes will be scored using the amateur scoring requirements from the IPSF Code of Points
  • Qualification is through IPSF national/open championships and/or video application

Year 3:

  • Athletes must be registered as disabled to enter
  • Two or more categories for all abilities (depending on numbers and disability types)
  • A possible gender split for categories if numbers of athletes require this
  • Amateur code will be used alongside an adapted code for the second category
  • Qualification is through IPSF national/open championships and/or video application

Year 4/5:

  • Years 4/5 are dependent on demand and evolution of the sport
  • Athletes must be registered as disabled to enter
  • Application of Para-Olympic system if there is demand and the categories have evolved in accordance to this
  • Two or more categories for all abilities (depending on numbers and disability types)
  • A possible gender split for categories if numbers of athletes require this
  • Amateur code will be used alongside an adapted code for the second category
  • Qualification is through IPSF national or open championships

CATEGORIES AND SCORING

Initially we will use the amateur category scoring requirements from the IPSF code of points. This will be tested for first year and then adapted as necessary. If the category becomes popular we will create different scoring depending on the different abilities. As we are all volunteers this will be dependent on time, resources and all important feedback from athletes.

WORLD PARA POLE CHAMPIONS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All Para Pole athletes will use the Amateur requirements from the IPSF Code of Points
  • Athletes must be at least 10 years old on the date of the World Artistic Pole Championships to apply
  • There will be one mixed age, gender and ability
  • There are 10 places available in the final selected via video entry of national qualification
  • Applications open on March 1st 2017
  • Applications and video submissions close at midnight (UK time) on 11th May
  • Results announced 25th May
