IPSF Level 2 Safeguarding & Child Protection in Sports

“Gaining the skills required to act appropriately to protect the children and young people you are working or volunteering with in sports activities.”

The IPSF Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding and Child Protection in Sports is a specialised training course on the Safeguarding Children Training Pathway. The qualification focuses on understanding what abuse is and learning how to recognise, report and record concerns about a child’s welfare in accordance with national statutory requirements.

This course does not certify/qualify coaches to coach or instruct children and young people in sports; an accredited coaching certification is required in addition to the Safeguarding qualification. The EPIC Youth Coaching Course includes this course free of charge.

Who is this course designed for?

The IPSF Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding and Child Protection in Sports is suitable for:

• Those who have frequent contact with children/young people in a sporting environment
• Those who have occasional contact with children/young people in a sporting environment
• Those who wish to understand the statutory requirements for safeguarding in sports
• Those with an organisational role concerning children’s activities

What level does the level 1 certificate qualify me to do?

The course will qualify the successful candidate to confidently take any appropriate action required regarding concerns about the welfare of a child or young person.

What are the requirements to attend the course?

Candidates are required to:

• Be at least 16 years of age

• Can you identify the process of recording concerns?
• Do you know what to do if a child discloses abuse to you?

How is the course delivered?

The IPSF Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding and Child Protection in Sports is delivered as an online e-learning course. It will be split into the following phases:

Phase 1- Online study and assessments

Phase 2 - Online final assessment

Throughout the taught programme the theoretical “Safeguarding and Child Protection” skills are threaded through the technical and tactical “How to identify” skills, both by discussion and review of course materials. You will be assessed through an independent online assessment at the end of the course.

Successful candidates who achieve 80% pass rate or more will receive a certificate.
