In February 2018 the IPSF committee voted unanimously to add Aerial Sports to its disciplines and work began on creating the first in the series of scoring systems (code of points) for Aerial Sports. The Hoop Code was Launched in October 2018 with competitions beginning the competitive season 2018/19
Aerial Sports championships are organised by IPSF National federation members. There is a regulated structure for competitions and coaching at national and international level. IPSF judging, rules, regulations and scoring have been carefully created by the IPSF aerial committee formed by professional aerial acrobats, in conjunction with the IPSF technical committee.

Athletes can compete in Aerial Hoop in the following categories:
The athletes must to qualify through IPSF National Championships or in the case of no nationals an Open Championhsips, in order to compete in the World Aerial Sports Championships (WASC).
